410 Verdict Defense Load Components Available
The hard hitting 410 VerdictTM recently introduced by Hoening Big Bore Slug LLC has been refined for production and to reduce costs to the consumer. The final Verdict formulation retains the essential characteristics of the proof of concept load introduced previously, multiple slug pellets with large metplat delivered in a controlled pattern. The heavy flat nosed slug pellets transfer greater energy at impact and tend to expand better than large buckshot loads will, resulting in greater damage and less chance of passing through the intended target. Components for hand loading the 410 VerdictTM will be made available before custom HBBS loads go on sale.
The 410 VerdictTM line of self defense loads for the .410 bore is intended for close range (20 feet or less) and may be particularly suitable for .410/.45 revolvers and pistols where wide shot patterning can be a problem. Although the controlled pattern may be useful at longer distances, it is not intended to be a hunting load.
These loads can also be used in the smooth bore .410 gauge shotguns where cylinder bore is the recommended choke. The advantage over single slug loads used in smooth bores is the obvious increase in overall metplat area hitting the target and more energy transfer with less chance of passing through with high retained energy. Smaller shot loads do not have the necessary individual weight for deep damaging penetration and larger buckshot loads tend to have a much bigger pattern and less initial shock at impact than the Verdict.
